Chapter 1

The Daily Challenge

For Zak McKracken, waking up in the morning was becoming more of a chore with every passing day. Seven was far too early these days, he’d decided against that a long time ago. Eight o’ clock was a pipedream; after all there was never anything on TV at that time. Nine was a bit more like it, but not much. Zak liked to snooze until the hours were well into double-figures. And even when he was awake he would only get out of bed if he really needed to. Mostly, these days, Zak didn’t get up till lunch time. But today was an important day.

As Zak’s alarm clock chimed up at eight o’ clock, Zak turned and squinted through one half-opened eye in sheer disbelief. What on Earth compelled him to set it for this ungodly hour? Was he ill? Had he been drinking? Oh no! Surely it wasn’t an appointment at the dentist? Zak struck the snooze button with some force, shut his eyes tightly and turned to face the black wall and empty half of his bed. He’d gotten used to only using half of his bed before Annie had left him. It didn’t seem appropriate to sprawl out anymore. Yes, Zak was indeed in bed alone again. Ten minutes passed in the blink of an eye and Zak groped helplessly for the alarm clock. Where had it gone? There was nothing for it; he was just going to have to open his eyes.

The clock was further away than usual; or rather Zak was further away from the clock. He had sprawled out, not something he had done for fourteen years – as far as he knew. Maybe he had just fallen forward when that goat kicked him, he thought. No wait that was a dream. Was it? Yes, of course it was. Come on Zak, he said silently to himself, it’s time to get up. Another ten minutes passed by in the blink of an eye and the annoying buzz of the alarm clock drilled into Zak’s mind. It was definitely time to get up.

Sloping down the stairs of his home in his favourite pyjamas, Zak contemplated the existence of true freedom. Maybe he would escape the human world, hijack a shuttle bus and take it to some unpopulated planet where he would live out his life in peace. It occurred to him soon after that the last person who attempted to hijack a shuttle bus was shot dead in an instant, besides; who was he really escaping from, his mother? She’d find him, she always did. And she’d call him every day asking why oh why he let that lovely wife of his slip away. He was better off where he was, she couldn’t complain after all, he hadn’t left the state. Los Angeles hadn’t served as a better home than San Francisco however, and he often longed to return there, to his small one-bed-roomed apartment on Fourteenth Avenue.

Zak crept into the kitchen with steely anticipation. What wonders awaited him in the glowing hum of his gigantic refrigerator? Perhaps there were still some of those sausages left over from Christmas? Hmmm… what month was it now, June? Maybe he’d pass on the sausages. As he opened the fridge door slowly, he baited his breath. Disappointment lurks in every crevasse of Zak’s continued existence and the contents of his fridge only served to prove this: one egg. One egg. What was he going to do with one solitary egg? Boil it, fry it or scramble it? Maybe he would make a very small omelette. Then again, maybe he’d just skip breakfast today and have a big lunch. That’s what he did most days.

After coffee, Zak was a changed man. He ran upstairs ready to get dressed for his busy day of… whatever the hell it was he got up for today. Zak looked down at the exceeding waistline that once fit into his tight black trousers and wondered how that happened with all those days of skipping breakfast. Maybe it was bad posture, causing his body to change shape. He’d better stand up straight or he’d get a hunched back. But then, Zak always stood up straight, it was one of the few things his dad had ever taught him. That and how to tie his shoelaces.

Zak wondered what caused his apparent weight gain. Maybe it was the four sugars and double cream he heaped into each of his twenty daily cups of coffee. More likely it was a life of inactivity and oversleeping. Whatever is was Zak certainly needed to lose some weight. He had joined a gym a few years ago and never went back, despite paying monthly for his membership, one of the many benefits of having money to burn.

As Zak looked at himself in the mirror he saw something out of place on his head. What was that, a thread from his pillow? No… it couldn’t be! Zak McKracken had a grey hair! How did this happen? He used to slim, young man with a casual manner and a highly paid job. Now he was a lazy slob with an expanding frame and grey hair! He’d better get to plucking.

Zak very carefully removed the pigment-free strand of hair from his otherwise magnificent crown. He heard that morning’s post flit through his slot and spill out onto the doormat below. Sounded like a lot of post today, what was the occasion?

As Zak gathered up the post he found three small envelopes, a parcel and one of those coupon books. He thumbed through the coupons first. A free bagel with a large coffee at his local café looks like he didn’t need to skip breakfast after all. Next the parcel, he hadn’t ordered anything that he could remember. Unless he’d had another drunken session on eBay, as he was rather known to do. What was in it?

The parcel was white and didn’t feel very heavy at all. Zak would have guessed it was empty if he couldn’t feel something hard and angular inside. He cautiously opened the package from the bottom, something else his father “Anthrax” McKracken had taught him. Out fell a red something. This something looked very familiar, and very sparkly. Zak was dazzled by the shiny object. This looks like an artefact, he thought to himself. It was a crystal, much like the ones he had seen twenty-four years ago. But this one was red, there were no red crystals in the device he and Annie had built. Was this a part of some other Skolarian machine? Surely not, the world wasn’t in danger as far as Zak could tell. Maybe it was nothing, just a crystal of none-power. He checked the parcel for a return address: The Society for Ancient Wisdom, 13th Avenue, San Francisco. There was a blast from the past. He didn’t even realise it was still there and with Annie travelling through Africa, who was running the place now?

Next, Zak opened the three small envelopes. Each one carried grave news, a sense of terrible foreboding loomed over Zak as he read them. Birthday cards! Happy Birthday Zak McKracken, life begins at forty. Funny, Zak couldn’t help but feel that his was coming to an end.

Chapter 2

The Autocratic Regime of Stupidity

“A triple-sized latte with four sugars and extra cream, just like every day.” Zak’s voice sounded different somehow; maybe he was catching a cold.

Paula looked at him with the least amount of warmth you could ever ask for from a woman. She had worked in the coffee bar for about two years now and she was at least half Zak’s age. She had lost count of the amount of times she’d had to look at his self-important smirking face making feeble, child-like attempts to flirt with her.

“Will that be all,” she forced a smile and finished at length, “Sir?”

Zak looked down at the impressive array of bagels laid out before him and reached into his jacket pocket. He’d stuffed everything in there; the coupons, his cards and the mysterious red crystal. The coupons he needed, why he brought those other things he had no idea. He’d never gotten out of the habit of just stuffing things into his pockets. Not that it was always a problem, they had a tendency to come in handy, but he could never find receipts for things.

“I have this coupon for a free bagel with any coffee.” He said, thumbing through his coupon book.

Paula looked stunned. For some reason all she could think about was her hair. Did it look okay? Did she look like that girl from that band? What was the name of that band again? Why was this guy smirking at her, something about bagels?

Zak interrupted her train of thoughtlessness, “Sorry, is that a problem? Do you not do that deal anymore? I only got the coupons this morning; it says they’re good till August.”

Paula continued to stare blankly at Zak. Zak considered checking if she was breathing, but decided against it.

“I’m sorry, sir. What can I get you?” she finally spoke.

Zak could feel his patience wearing thin. “I get a free bagel with the coffee I just ordered.”

“Coffee?” her frontal lobe started to fizz.

“Yes, remember? A triple-sized latte with four sugars and extra cream.”

Paula started to come to her senses. Remembering where she was and what she was doing.

“Just like every day” finished Zak, the smirk returning to his face.

Paula forced a smile once more and handed Zak his coffee and his free bagel with bacon and egg. The egg looked rather rank but at least it wasn’t the one in his fridge.

“Thank you” he said, cheerfully. His expression then turned to one of concern, “Are you feeling okay?” he asked, sincerely.

Oh god, this creepy old man is flirting with me again, thought Paula. “Have a nice day, sir” she said, as only a trained professional could do.

Zak left with coffee and bagel in hand, wondering what exactly had transpired in the mind of the young lady.

“Coffee Shop Assistant Recovers from Two Minute Coma” he muttered to himself. A headline he could imagine using in his younger days at The National Inquisitor. Those were days he didn’t miss.

As he walked down the street he sipped his coffee. With coffee this good the bagels in that place must be positively dreamy. He sniffed the bagel; it smelled like a bagel, what was he expecting really? He took a big bite from it; it tasted like stale bread, a greasy slab of rubber and some stringy, undercooked bacon. He threw it bodily into the next available trashcan.

I wonder what happened to that girl in there, Zak thought. She just seemed to phase right out of her own mind. Something wasn’t quite right in the world this morning. “Ah, forget it. You’re just getting old, McKracken” he told himself.

He passed by the news-stand and couldn’t help but notice a copy of The National Inquisitor on the top rack. He picked it up out of curiosity and read the front page headline: “Two-Headed Squirrel Saves Earth from Alien Menace.”

Zak followed that up with a headline of his own, “World Still the Same: Shocker!”

“What was that?” asked the news-stand owner.

Zak looked up, he didn’t realise he’d been speaking aloud. “Oh, err… I’ll take one.” He said.

“That’ll be two dollars, pal.” He said and stretched out his hand.

Zak rummaged in his pocket for his wallet. He opened it and took out his CashCard.

The man seemed slightly stunned and confused when Zak handed the card to him. He swiped it in slowly, and handed it back to him. He then picked up a copy of a celebrity gossip magazine and began reading. There was a picture of Leslie Bennett on the front cover, advertising her newest hair colour. Zak smiled, happy to see her in some way. Although, he could never bring himself to read one of those rags. They’re strictly for the lesser idiots, he thought.

“Tabloid Reporter Saves Planet from Stupidity, No-one Notices the Difference” he said aloud to himself as he walked away.

Chapter 3

Dream Sharing and Extortionate Air-Fares

The day was getting off to a flying start. Zak had so far accomplished three things: He’d lived for forty years; he’d managed to get out of bed and he’d made himself hungry.

He had walked around town for some time looking for some sign that there was a reason for living and so far he had discovered none. He had discovered that he didn’t have any real friends. His two best friends lived on Mars and Zak just never got round to visiting them. As for Annie, he didn’t even know where she was; last he’d heard she was travelling back to Cairo. Zak didn’t really miss being in Africa, especially Egypt. That creature he’d discovered there put him off ever wanting to go back. But Annie loved it, and so there she remained.

The benches in this park were surprisingly comfortable, the one Zak sat on now had been built to honour some local school teacher who had died of cancer. Zak wasn’t really interested in that though, he just liked the bench. As he sat there he wondered why he’d bothered to set his alarm so early and why he had even bothered to get up at all. And then there was that mysterious red crystal that was sent to him from San Francisco. Did that mean Annie was back in America?

Zak started to feel himself doze off, odd considering the amount of coffee he had already had. He couldn’t fight the strange compulsion to go to sleep where he sat. He’d felt this sensation before, but not for years.

Zak stood up and turned around. He looked directly at himself, sleeping on the bench. He knew this, he remembered it. He looked up at the sky and saw a strange object descending from above the clouds. As the object got closer, Zak couldn’t help but feel he’d seen it before, albeit in some different form. It looked vaguely like the device he and Annie had built in the pyramid in 1997. This device was larger though, and had more attachments. As well as the blue, white and yellow crystals there were four more; a green crystal, a black crystal, a purple crystal and a red crystal. A red crystal! Zak reached into his jacket and pulled out his red crystal to compare them. A thin hand appeared to Zak’s side, as if from nowhere. Its long fingers snatched away the crystal from Zak.

Zak turned quickly to see who had taken the crystal but saw nothing; literally nothing, no park, no device, nothing. He looked around and continued to see nothing, just darkness. He then heard a voice behind him.

"Thank you, human! This artefact will come in most useful, we have you to thank for returning it so readily."

Zak turned to face the voice. A Caponian stood in the blackness, holding up the crystal in his thin hand. Zak tried to speak but his voice was muffled. The Caponian vanished, crystal and all.

Zak sank to his knees, sure that he had brought about something horrible. But, just then a reassuring hand found Zak’s right shoulder and a familiar voice chased his worries away.

"You’re a hard man to get hold of, Zak McKracken."

Zak turned his head and saw the face of the woman he once loved.

"Annie?" he managed to say, "Annie, you came back!"

"This is a dream, Zak." Said Annie Larris, "Just like old times."

"Zak, you need to find me. The Caponians want that crystal and I’m afraid of what will happen if they find you."

"Annie, I’ve missed you. Why didn’t you come back with me?" pleaded Zak.

"There’s no time for that, Zak. Just come and see me"

With that, Annie started to walk away.

"But Annie, where are you!?" yelled Zak. As he yelled he woke himself up; still sitting on the bench, drooling onto his jacket. He hastily checked his pockets and was relieved to find that he still had the red crystal. If the Caponians wanted it he couldn’t hang around much longer. He felt the weight of the crystal in his hand, it was similar and yet very different to the ones he had found and used all those years ago. This one was heavier and the edges seemed sharper and more angular.

Zak turned to see a small child looking at him; this freaked him out a little bit.

"You were snoring." said the little girl.

Zak didn’t respond, he wasn’t good with children. He managed an awkward smile and then he walked away.

As Zak walked he went over the dream in his head, he hadn’t had a dream like that in years. Was it really Annie sharing her dreams with him? He hadn’t been able to do it for years, Annie must have found some secret to it; something that the Skolarians left behind in Egypt maybe.

If it really was Annie, he’d better try and find her. The Society of Ancient Wisdom on Thirteenth Avenue seemed a good place to start. So he’d better get to the airport and get on the first flight to San Francisco.

The airports were all still run by Air Airlines, and therefore there were no competing companies. That meant that they could literally charge whatever they liked. This didn’t surprise him in the least; a flight to San Francisco would cost him two-thousand and forty six dollars! He wasn’t prepared to pay that; he’d rather get the bus. Then he saw something out of the corner of his eye. Zak turned to look at the runway outside and saw a very familiar looking biplane outside. It was red, very banged up and said "Divine Wind Tours" on the side. He figured he’d check it out.

Chapter 4

Buck!

Zak had encountered Divine Wind Tours before; and had ridden in the somewhat rickety vessel that is so unworthy of the name "The Divine Wind" on several occasions. However, on not a single one of those journeys had he arrived at his destination. Sure he had met The King, won the lottery and uncovered Atlantis – another deed for which he was growing rich and fat – but that hadn’t been the point; he had wanted to see the Bermuda Triangle.

All of this had occurred quite suddenly to Zak in the past few moments. The problem was not that it had happened in the first place; it was more the fact that he had remembered it at all. The fact that he had remembered this after twenty minutes on the familiar-yet-increasingly-dilapidated bi-plane that burred and stalled at irregular and unpredictable intervals was what made him wish he had kept that floatation seat.

That was something else that had been bothering him. Why was he over the ocean? He only wanted to go to Seattle. He wasn’t even leaving the state, let alone the continent!

"Excuse me!" He yelled, barely able to hear himself over the sound of the clanking, buzzing motor and squeaking propeller blades.

The pilot of the Divine Wind seemed completely oblivious to the many, many problems that his aircraft was experiencing and was somehow able to hear Zak’s voice quite clearly. He turned his head and revealed his beaming grin.

"How do like it, buddy?" He didn’t so much yell as project this query in a well-practiced bass tone that could penetrate even the loudest din. "A little bumpy on take-off but we’re flying smooth now, huh?"

"Flying smooth!?" Zak couldn’t believe his ears. "I’m amazed this tin-can can even move; let alone fly!"

"Tin-can?" There was a hint of offence in his voice. "This baby may not look like much pal, but she’s got it where it counts! This old bird and I have been flying together for fourteen years now."

This suddenly made sense to Zak. When he had first laid eyes on the pilot he couldn’t quite tell if he was the same man. He seemed a lot younger, but still had that slightly psychotic glint in his eye.

"Ever since pop disappeared…" the pilot trailed off’ but Zak didn’t need him to finish that sentence. An awesome feeling of guilt overcame him. Zak should have realised that you can’t save the earth without micro waving a few eggs.

When Zak and Annie had activated the Skolarian device all those years ago the Divine Wind pilot must have been in the middle of a tour. And in their panic, the Caponians must have dragged him along with them, sending his aeroplane, unmanned back to Miami. And Zak had never even asked his name.

He made sure to swallow his guilt, "My name’s Zak by the way." He yelled.

The pilot once again revealed his beaming grin. "Buck!" He boomed.

Zak wasn’t quite sure is he should be offended. "Excuse me?"

"Buck’s the name, buddy! Pleased to meet you!" He extended a hand to greet Zak but as he did so something came loose in the cockpit with an almighty CLANK.

Buck turned back, his grin vanished; replaced now by an expression of pure alarm.

"What was that?" asked Zak, hiding his own terror quite well, despite being in a state of absolute panic.

"You may want to fasten your seatbelt, Jack!" said Buck, in a less than calming tone.

"There are no seatbelts! I’m just tied to the chair by a length of tattered rope!" Zak’s fear now becoming quite obvious.

"Well then hold onto something buddy, this looks bad!"

And with that, both engines exploded simultaneously. It would have been a spectacular and somewhat impressive sight to behold, especially as the wings caught fire and the smoking, flaming vessel went spiralling gracefully into the sea. It would have been even more impressive had Zak not been so sure it was the last thing he would ever see.

Zak McKracken, Hero of Earth; Killed by the Son of an Idiot because he was too Cheap to Pay for the Price of… It occurred to Zak that this headline was far too long for two reasons. The first reason was quite simply that headlines need to be snappy and short, but what did he care? He was on the verge of death.

The second reason Zak decided this headline was too long was because he would simply not have time to have even thought of the whole thing by the time his flaming coffin had hit his watery grave. That bothered him for some reason. It wasn’t for some time that Zak realised he was not dead at all but very much alive. Saved by the Son of a Great Man who’s Memory would go on forever. That had a much nicer ring to it he thought, especially as it had only cost him ninety-nine dollars for the privilege.

"Where am I?" He yelled as loud as he could, the sound of the roaring plane crash still echoing in his ears.

"You’re okay, Mack." said Buck, his rescuer. "We’re floating on a wrecked biplane in the middle of an ocean."

"Which ocean?" This had seemed the most pertinent question to ask at the time.

Buck thought for a while. "The Atlantic? That’s the name of an ocean right?"

Zak’s head lolled backwards, he could feel blood running down his neck but couldn’t tell where it was coming from as he could feel no pain. "That’s another thing," he added, his voice becoming much weaker now; "Why are we over the ocean? I just wanted to go to Seattle." He dropped out of consciousness.

Chapter 5

Blackness

There was blackness now and nothing else. Zak thought that he must finally have died. It had bothered him earlier to discover that he had survived a rather terrible plane crash and now it bothered him more that the only person to witness his passing was the son of a man whom he had inadvertently marooned in a space Cadillac.

Then he saw something, a shape moving towards him. Two shapes, blue and pink they seemed to be. They approached at blinding speed and all at once he recognised them and realised that he was not dead. This bothered him again.

The two indistinct shapes, now very distinct indeed, had turned out to be Leslie and Melissa. Those two flakes had made a big success of themselves when they helped Zak save the world. He was very pleased to see them, he was also pleased to look behind him and see his body had copious amounts of blood coming from its head. He couldn’t pinpoint the exact moment that he had decided he wanted to die but he knew it was somewhere between breakfast bagels and extortionate air-fares.

"Zak" said the welcome, familiar voice of Melissa. "There’s not much time, you’ll wake up soon."

"This is dream sharing again isn’t it?" said Zak, his voice as quiet as a whisper now after all that yelling. "I don’t particularly want to wake up. I think I might be dead soon."

"You can’t die!" screamed Leslie. "The world needs you alive, for the time being."

"You need to come and see us, Zak. We’re on Mars." added Melissa.

Zak was despondent. "Mars? I couldn’t even get from L.A. to Seattle without nearly dying in a flaming plane wreck. How am I going to get back? I need to see Annie. She has answers for me."

"See Annie, and then come see us." said Melissa.

"Actually… you should probably go to a hospital first, Zak" chimed in Leslie.

"But how?" pleaded Zak.

"The Caponians know about the crystal, Zak. They’re back on earth!" Leslie snapped.

Zak knew this couldn’t be good. "Then we go to Egypt, we reactivate the device."

"They thought of that, Zak. You’ll need that red crystal you have." said Melissa, calmly.

"What should I do with it?" as Zak said this he found that he had it in his hand. And for seemingly no reason at all, it fired a beam of red light directly into the sky with a deafening howl.

"What the…" Zak fell speechless. He fell dumb in fact. Wondering why he was here or where here was or who the pretty ladies in front of him were.

"Hi, pretty ladies." He mumbled.

Leslie turned to Melissa, "I guess that’s all it will take" she said.

The blackness faded and subsided to reveal the wreckage floating on the water. Zak saw Buck leaning into the sea "Come on, fishes. Let me play with you!" he pleaded to the fish. When no fish came to play he began to cry. So Zak cried too, and the pair of them hugged each other right there in the debris.

"I love you, mommy!" wailed Buck.

"I love you mommy, too!" replied Zak.

There was a loud poof and space-time seemed to make way for something that shouldn’t have existed in the moment and place that it did. This something was a rather imposing figure, wearing a blue ten-gallon hat with curious holes cut into the top. This figure wore dark glasses and had a rather unusual moustache. Zak thought for a moment that he recognised this creature…

"Mommy?" he asked.

To be continued…

Zak McKracken and the Stolen Statue Affair

by 'The Guy that Writes'

Chapter 1: The call.

It was a sunny day in 2007, Zak was sleeping on his bed at his new mansion, ten years ago he made rich in an adventure that involved aliens, ancient artifact looking and LOT of thinking, but now, all the things that he did every day was sleeping, eat, see TV shows, buy his Marvel Comic, eating, and sleeping. But this day, Zak was dreaming of adventure again, he was bored, he wanted to see Melissa and Leslie again, he heared the sound of his phone, Zak jumped out of bed and picked the phone.

''Hi, I`m Zak McKracken'' Zak said.

''Zak! It has been a long time, eh?'' said the voice in the phone, Zak recognized it, it was Annie Larris! The woman that he married, but after some problems, they had divorced.

''Annie? Is that you?'' Zak answered.

''Yes, meet me at the library, I' ve got something to tell you'' answered Annie. Zak left the phone and the he dressed like those months at 1997, and he was in the first fly to San Francisco, he entered at the library, and he meet the woman that he once loved...

Chapter 2: The explanation.

''You finally come'' said Annie, his face had the sarchastic look that Zak always saw on her.

''Why did you call me?'' asked Zak, in a bad tone, but he was very happy for seeing Annie again.

''You know the museum that my father owns?'' said Annie, Zak rembered that Annie told very little things about his father, he just knowed that his father was a rich person.

''Uh... Kinda'' answered Zak.

''Well, an old statue was stolen on the museum, the police doesn't find anything, but I know that you can recover it'' Explained Annie, Zak was surprised, and some minutes later, Zak answered,

''Why do you think that I will help you?''

''Because, I always knowed... You still love me'' was the answer.

Chapter 3: First Steps.

That night, Zak and Annie went to the museum, that time, there was an exposition about the chachapoyan warriors, so Annie's father, Mr. Wright Larris, was there. Zak examined the pedestal where the stolen statue used to be, but he didn't found nothing, but in the floor he picked up a small piece of paper, there was an inscription on it: it read:

''Dr. Samnabla Rodier, conservative of Larris Museum''

Zak was intrigued, he started to have a theory, but suddenly, he heared a scream, Zak turned and saw a man in black jacket with a big black hat running outta the museum, he holded a gun, then, Zak looked and the floor, he saw blood, more blood than ever in his life, Zak walked a bit, and saw Annie criying for the dead man, the dead was Wright Larris. Zak runned outta the museum and saw the killer, the killer mounted in a car, and Zak mounted in his car, the killer noticed that Zak was following him and he shooted the wheels of Zak's car, Zak's car left the highway and collisioned in a wall, Zak didn't injuried because he jumped out of the car before colission, Zak was angry: The man who killed the father of his ex-wife escaped, and Zak walked to the museum, thinking on how was he going to console Annie.

Chapter 4: The killer is...

Zak and Annie reached the house of Larris family, they returned from Wright Larris funeral, Zak never saw Annie so sad since the day when they divorciated, Zak swored that the killer would pay his crime and Zak wondered if the killer could be the one that stoled the statue, Zak wanted to ask Annie about the paper he founded, and they went to Annie's bedroom.

''Do you know someone called Samnabla Rodier?'' said Zak.

''Yes, it's the conservative of the Museum of... dad'' after saying that she cried again.

''Annie...'' Zak said.

They both kissed again, with more passion that ever, they wanted to marry again.

That night, Zak and Annie went to Rodier's house, it was on 22th avenue, the number 1961. The door was open, but no one was here.

''Let's examine the house'' said Annie, they searched, and found the stolen statue in a drawer.

''So, Samnabla is the burglar!!!'' said Zak, suddenly, they sensed a presence in the room, and they turned around, they saw the killer of Wright Larris, but now they could see clarely his face.

It was Samnabla Rodier.

Chapter 5: The case gets solved.

Zak talked to Samnabla.

''¿W-Who are you?'' said Zak, fearing.

''I'm Samnabla Rodier, I left my door opened so you could fall in this trap, I always noticed that I lost my card, the card you found, I wanted to steal the statue to selling it and earn money, Mr. Wright payed me poorly!'' said Rodier.

''You bas--!'' yelled Annie, she didn't finish her sentence because Rodier shooted Annie, Annie falled to the floor because the bullet hit in her stomach.

''NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!'' cryed Zak, the revenge feel in him growed, he runned to Rodier, Rodier fired, but Zak avoided all the shots using his rage, he punched and knocked Rodier, instantly, he used Rodier's phone to call an ambulance and the police, the ambulance picked Annie and the police picked Rodier.

Chapter 6: An old love rebirths.

Luckily, Annie soon recovered, and she could talk to Zak in Zak's Mansion.

''It was one thing that maintained me with life'' said Annie.

''And what was that?'' asked Zak.

''Love, the love for you, Zak'' said Annie.

When Annie was fully recovered, she married again with Zak, and the lived in Zak's mansion, she's sure that is father in the afterlife would be happy.

THE END.

Zak McKracken and the Dark Temple

by 'The Guy that Writes'

Chapter 1: Not just another job.

Annie finally went to home after she ended her work in the library, Zak already made the lunch, but she didn't eat.

''Aren't you going to eat anything?'' said Zak, it really was hard for him cooking even with his book ´´Cooking for fools´´.

''Zak, we need to go to Argentina'' said Annie, Zak believed that it was a joke, but he realized Annie's serious tone.

''What? Why?'' asked Zak.

''I need to find a manuscript in Argentina'' said Annie.

''Why?'' asked Zak.

''My boss believes that the manuscript his the legendary lost dialogue of Plato'' said Annie.

''That's ridiculous'' Zak said.

''But you're coming with me, right?'' said Annie. Zak noticed that she still got somewhat of a sarchastic look in her face.

Chapter 2: In Argentina.

After an enjoyable flight, Zak and Annie were in Argentina, Zak was paranoic, he knowed that this was going to be another crazy and bizarre adventure.

''Where are we going?'' asked Zak.

''We must explore a temple called... The temple of Darkness'' answered Annie.

''I don't think that it's the name of an amusement park...'' said Zak.

''The temple is called of that way because the inhabitants of the zone are very superstitious'' answered Annie.

''I still have a bad feeling about this'' said Zak.

Zak and Annie called a taxi, when Annie telled the taxi driver that they were going to the temple of darkness, the taxi driver ran out of the car.

''You see, Annie? We shouldn't go to that temple!'' said Zak.

''I think that the taxi driver was too superstitious'' said Annie.

Finally, they reached the temple of Darkness, and they regretted to enter in the temple...

Chapter 3: Booby traps.

Zak and Annie suddenly heared a strange sound when they entered, they saw an inscription on the wall, it said ''Perdedores seguid'' wich translated to English is ''Losers ahead''.

''Annie, GET DOWN!'' yelled Zak, and they crouched, Zak was right, because when they crouched, a lance was shooted, and would have cutted their heads if they standed.

''Thanks'' said Annie.

Far far away in space, there was a long spaceship, some aliens called the caponians were here, the caponians were extremely ugly, and all weared black costume, except his king, that dressed in an Elvis Presley type of costume.

''How long is it to the Earth'' said the King.

''Just one hour, oh supreme god'' said a caponian with a name too complicated to say, so I'll call him Zlrhpeckharl wich his easier to pronounce.

''I want revenge for those two that turned on the Skolarian Device, who where his names?'' asked the King.

''The one that his masculine is called Zak, the female one is denominated Annie'' responded Zlrhpeckharl.

''I want to kill them with an extremely bloody mode, any suggestions?'' asked the King.

''Yes, we could take them to a place called the temple of Darkness, no one as ever survived to it'' responded Zlrhpeckharl.

''It sounds well, we go there'' answered the King.

''Yes sir'' ended Zlrhpeckharl.

Chapter 4: A fragment of the personal log of Zak McKracken.

17th December of 2007.

Today, Annie and me entered in the temple of Darkness (That name gives me creeps) searching for the lost dialogue of Plato, there I saved Annie and me of a death and we continued, and we got to cross A MAZE!!! (Oh my god I hate mazes)then, after an hour wandering around the maze completely lost, we got a surprise: The King of the Caponians WAS HERE!! He was accompanied by one caponian.

''Is this Zak McKracken?'' said the King.

''Yes sir, and the female one is Annie Larris'' answered the caponian.

''Well, what we do now? They are alredy in the temple of Darkness!'' said the King.

''Well, then we could just put them on the New Ultra Super Duper Extra V2 Special Edition Mega Mindbender Version 12.a'' answered the caponian.

''We're doomed, Zak!'' said Annie.

And the caponians putted to us in some kind of new Mindbender machine, and I feel that same strange sensation of stupidity of ten years ago... After some time, we fall unconscious to the floor.

Now we are on a caponian cell, the caponians leaved us here with no food, Annie is still unconscious, but instantly, I started to think on a plan to get us out of the cell...

Chapter 5: The great escape.

Zak closed his blog, now he should be thinking on how to escape of the cell. Zak waked Annie up.

''Uh... We're in the afterlife?'' said Annie rubbing his eyes.

''What? Are you still affected by the mindbender?'' Zak asked.

Zak noticed an small monitor in the door, it was the door's lock, to open it they should figure out the password.

''What will the password be?'' asked Annie.

''Humm... The caponians don't have a big brain, it has to be something that they didn't forget'' Zak wondered. He tried to guess the password, he rembered the Bermuda Triangle, and the code that the caponians showed to him, it was a combination of colours, like the buttons of the door's lock.

''Well, I will give it a try'' tought, and he put the exact same password as the one of Bermuda Triangle, there was a voice in the monitor.

''Confirmed password, you have access clear, and now the publicity, Roger Wilco is back on another graphic adventure that...'' the monitor continue talking of something called Space Quest 189230, but Zak and Annie ignored it, they were free, but something was wrong.

''Oh... no'' said Zak.

They were at the maze in the temple of Darkness!

Chapter 6: Even I don't believe this.

Zak and Annie were lost at the maze... again... Eventually the met a guy, a strange man, he was dressed in a 17th century blue coat, he got a ponytail and a little beard.

''Who are you?'' said Annie.

''I'm Guybrush Threepwood, mighty pirate!'' said the strange man proudly.

Zak and Annie couldn't avoid laughing at the man.

''Hey! I am serious! Look how I say yeargh!'' shouted Guybrush.

Zak and Annie were still laughing loudly.

''Yeargh yeargh yeargh YEARGH!!!'' was yelling Guybrush.

''Well, that's enough'' said Annie, they stop laughing.

''Why are you dressed so strange?'' asked Zak.

''YOU guys are the one with strange dresses!'' answered Guybrush.

Annie got a strange idea.

''In what year do you think we are, Goopberd?'' asked Annie.

''The name is Guybrush, and we are in 1655 of course!'' answered Guybrush.

''What? We are in year 2007'' said Zak.

Before Guybrush could answer, a man entered the same room than them, the man got a GOOD leather jacket, and a hat, he also was carrying a whip.

''And who are you now?'' asked Annie.

''Well, call me Indiana Jones'' said the man.

Chapter 7: Universes.

''Hey! I know you from movies!'' said Zak to Indy.

''Movies? You are from a parallel universe?'' asked Indy.

''What do you mean?'' asked Annie.

''Oh, you don't know that the temple of darkness is a portal between all the universes?'' said Indy.

''A portal?'' said Zak.

''Yes! That would explain why we have met! We live in parallel universes!'' deduced Annie.

''I am searching the eye of the phoenix for a museum, legends says that it's hidden within the temple'' said Indy.

''We are searching the lost dialogue of Plato'' said Annie.

''The lost dialogue? I could tell you an adventure that I lived in the 1939 of my universe, you see, an strange mr. Smith entered in my office and--'' said Indy, but he was interrupted by Annie.

''Sorry, you can tell it later'' and they continued as a team by the maze, Indy wanted the eye of the phoenix, Zak and Annie wanted the lost dialogue of Plato, and Guybrush just wanted a tale to tell, suddenly they met...

Chapter 8: Bizarre conclusion.

They met the King.

''Ha! Finally you came!'' said the King.

''Oh no...'' mumbled Zak.

''No no no, don't worry, take your lost dialogue of Plato!'' said the King, the gave an old scroll to Annie.

''This is IT!'' exclaimed Annie.

''And now you are going back to your house! but first...'' The King walked to Indy.

''Here yo have, the eye of the phoenix!'' the King gave an statue of a deformed eye.

''THIS is what I was looking for!'' said Indy, then the King shooted Indy with a laser gun.

''NO!'' cried Annie.

''Don't worry, he's going to the Barnett College, at his universe.

Zak noticed that Guybrush Threepwood wasn't here.

''Ah, that fool will be lost forever at the temple of darkness!'' said the King.

The King shot Zak and Annie with the same laser gun he used on Indy.

On Indy's parallel universe, in the Barnett College of the year 1941, Indy was in his office, unconscious, Marcus Brody, Indy's best friend, entered the office, he waked Indy up.

''What happened, Indy?'' asked Marcus.

''Uh... I don't remember...'' said Indy.

Marcus noticed the eye of the phoenix that Indy was carrying.

''Hey! Isn't that the legendary eye of the phoenix?'' said Marcus.

In other parallel universe, Zak was sleeping in his bed, he wake up and remebered that this day was is turn to cook. Annie finally went to home after she ended her work in the library, Zak already made the lunch, but she didn't eat.

''Aren't you going to eat anything?'' said Zak, it really was hard for him cooking even with his book ´´Cooking for fools´´.

''Zak, do you rember anything of yesterday?'' asked Annie.

''Uh... No, why do you ask?'' said Zak.

''This morning, I found the lost dialogue of Plato in my bed'' said Annie.

Yes, the caponian brainwashed Indy, Zak and Annie so they couldn't remember anything, the only one that remembers the adventure is Guybrush Threepwood, because he could escape from caponians and managed to return to Melee Island. But no one believed his story. The caponians were stablished a base inside the dark temple.

''Sir, why let you escape Zak, Annie and that guy, Indy?'' said Zlrhpeckharl.

''Remember the fountain of eternal life we found after the maze in this temple? I they had continued they would found it, drink from it and then we couldn't kill them!'' answered the King.

''Oh... Yes, and why we are stablished here?'' said Zlrhpeckharl.

''I want you all to drink from that fountain, I already drank from it''

THE END.
